Even before the makers of Udta Punjab could bask in the success of its growing hits on the latest song "Da Da Dasse", an unexpected news jolted the entire team. One of the most anticipated films of the year failed to receive an all-clear from the Censor Board. The Abhishek Chaubey film has been grounded!

OH NO!

Despite the film's elaborate star cast, it was not cleared by the certification board for release because of "excessive swearing and abusive language". The movie is based on substance abuse in Punjab. While the expletive-laden dialogues are being termed as the reason why the film did not get a permit, sources close to the producers allege that the film was stopped for political reasons considering Punjab will hold elections next year.

Producer Anurag Kashyap, we hear has decided to appeal against the decision. Co-producer Vikas Bahl said the film deserves at least an adult certificate.

"This film is adult. We should get an adult certificate. I think everything, if seen in the right context, will get the right judgement." - Vikas Bahl

Udta Punjab boasts of actors Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh. Things looked quite in place when its trailer was passed in April without any cuts. Kashyap had even lauded CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani. The trailer and songs went on to receive enough praise and was received with much adulation by the audience, only barring some criticism about the character of a Bihari migrant, played by Alia. The latest news might come as a shock for fans who were counting days until its scheduled release on June 17. We hope things get sorted soon. We can't wait to see Shahid killing his rockstar character!
