SIIMA Awards 2016: Why was Dulquer Salmaan's performance in OK Kanmani so RUDELY ignored?

The actor was nominated for the Best Actor for his performance in Charlie in the Malayalam film category, but he certainly deserved a nod for his role in OK Kanmani as well!

The film has found multiple nominations in other categories, but none for the leading actor!

That OK Kanmani would be a leading contender for most of the nominations for the awards this year, was an established fact. This romantic drama directed by Mani Ratnam in 2015 was one of the biggest hits of the year, and also is in line for a Hindi remake, starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. The original starred Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen, and had music composed by Academy Award-winning AR Rahman. In the recently announced SIIMA Awards 2016, the film bagged several nominations in various categories including Best Film, Best Director (Mani Ratnam), Best Actress (Nithya Menen), Best Supporting Actor (Prakash Raj), Best Supporting Actress (Leela Samson), Best Music (AR Rahman), Best Singer - Male (Kartik - Aye Sinamika), Best Singer - Female (Shashaa Tirupati -Paranthu Sellu Vaa), Best Lyrics (Vairamuthu). However the leading actor, Dulquer Salmaan's name is missing in the acting honours, despite getting rave reviews for his performance and garnering so much fanbase thanks to this one performance! The actor was nominated for the Best Actor for his performance in Charlie in the Malayalam film category, but he certainly deserved a nod for his role in OK Kanmani as well! Though I don't have much of complaints with the rest of the nominees in the Best Actor category, except for Lawrence in Kanchana 2. I know his performance has its fans, but then to each his own! Dulquer couldn't find a place in the Best Actor Male as well, because he had actually made his Tamil debut with Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (though they nominated Sharafudeen for Premam as the Best Newcomer in Malayalam category, whereas he had previously appeared in Neram and Om Shanthi Oshana) Also Read - Rashmika Mandanna, Prabhas and more South Indian celebrities and their obsessions will leave you surprised
