Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation is all set to start beautification of 22 major ponds across the city before the monsoon sets in. As many as 20 ponds have been selected for beautification under one project and two big ponds including Bada Talab and Karamtoli Talab will be beautified as separate projects.
Deputy mayor Sanjiv Vijayavargiya said, "The plan is to not just beautify the ponds but also de-silt them before the monsoon so that their depth increases and they can store more water in monsoon."
"The work was supposed to start from Wednesday with laying the foundation stone for renovation and beautification of Kadru Talaab but the programme has been delayed by a day or two due to inevitable reasons," he added.

Of the 20 selected ponds, tender for eight including Kadru Talaab, Bhimsa Talaab, Tunkitoli Talaab, Banas Talab, Hatma Basti Talaab, Devi Mandap talaab, Divyayan Talaab and Argora Talaab has already been done and the work is going to start soon.
Uma Shankar Ram, engineer at RMC said, "The tender for other 12 ponds will also be floated soon."
The beautification of the ponds will include de-silting, erecting a boundary wall around the pond, making a pathway for morning and evening walkers, installing benches and landscaping and plantation around those ponds which have space.
Ram said, "We will also be making a separate area for idol immersion in these ponds and also develop the ponds as chhath ghat."
Apart from these 20, there is a plan to beautify the Karamtoli Talaab, which will be done by JUDCO.
The beautification of Bada Talaab will be done by RMC and the pond will be developed as a tourist attraction.
"Apart from making pathway and boundary wall, there will be toilets, control room, guard room and much more. There is a plan to make a cafeteria and children's park on the land situated in the centre of the lake where people can reach through boat. The detailed project report for the pond has been prepared and sent to the department for approval. Once approved, we will begin the work," Ram said.
