Some Thrissur Pooram fireworks illegal: PESO
Thrissur: Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) officials have clarified that the items like Amittu, Kuzhiminni, Dynamittu and Nilayamittu which were used in this year's Thrissur Pooram fireworks display were illegal.
In a reply to the RTI query submitted by activist V K Venkitachalam the PESO officials said "these items are unauthorised fireworks and not permitted to manufacture for public display".

The officials said they had not yet examined the fireworks items seized by the police during the pre-Pooram raids conducted at Chalakkudy. The police had approached the PESO for the destruction of the fireworks items.
The PESO officials said they had not granted license for the fireworks display as the district collectors have been authorised to issue such permissions.
Venkitachalam said the PESO had informed him that the collector can be approached to get details of the quantity and nature of the fireworks items used for the Pooram. "The collector's office had not replied for the last one-and-a-half month on such queries submitted by me," Veniktachalam alleged.
