Medical education dept proposes to increase PG seats in SMS medical college

The medical education department has sent a proposal to the Centre to increase post-graduation (PG) seats in Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College. In 2013, the Medical Council of India (MCI) had sent a letter of permission (LOP) to SMS Medical College for increasing seats in its MBBS course from 150 to 250. At present, the SMS hospital has 250 MBBS seats but the PG seats are just 248.

Jaipur: The medical education department has sent a proposal to the Centre to increase post-graduation (PG) seats in Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College.
In 2013, the Medical Council of India (MCI) had sent a letter of permission (LOP) to SMS Medical College for increasing seats in its MBBS course from 150 to 250. At present, the SMS hospital has 250 MBBS seats but the PG seats are just 248.

An SMS hospital official said that there is a cap of 250 seats for MBBS, which cannot be increased but the PG seats can be increased as there is sufficient faculty and also the hospital has a base for increasing PG seats in the hospital.
In a sub-group meeting of CM advisory committee, special secretary to government, medical education department, Dr Prithvi Raj, said that the proposal to increase the PG seats by 55 has been sent. The government has sent the proposal to increase the seats by 55. He said that they are putting efforts to strengthen the medical education in the state by taking suggestions from doctors' associations, UG students' unions and resident doctors' associations.
Besides, seven new medical colleges will come up in different parts of the state. Each hospital will have 100 seats for MBBS. The construction of the hospitals is in progress, a health department official said.
