Kanpur: BTech student Ritu Yadav's family on Wednesday finally cremated her body in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj over a month after she allegedly committed suicide in Greater Noida on April 20 following shop-lifting accusations.
The family relented after a second autopsy was conducted on the body as per their demand. Ritu's father, Vishambhar Yadav, had preserved the body while insisting his daughter was murdered.
He hoped the truth would come out after the fresh autopsy.
Investigators had also sought a second autopsy. A three-member team conducted the autopsy and handed over a sealed report to the investigating officer in the case.
The Uttar Pradesh police earlier insisted Ritu had committed suicide while her parents suspected foul play.
Ritu's body was preserved using natural herbs and flower petals along with a mixture of ghee and naturally extracted perfume oil in a five-feet-deep pit covered with a polythene sheet and bamboo sticks in Kannauj. The body was taken out on Tuesday in presence of additional district magistrate Sunil Kumar Shukla.
Ritu had allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the seventh floor of her apartment complex. The police had registered a case of abatement to suicide against her four roommates on the basis of her four-page suicide note.
