Divya R. Madhyan, a student of Vijaya Vittala PU College, and Akhila G., of Marimallappa’s PU College, have emerged as the toppers in Mysuru district by scoring 591 marks out of 600 in PCMB (physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology) stream.

Hymavathi B.U. and Prajwal H.M. Gargesh, both students of Sadvidya PU College, have scored 590 marks in the PCME (physics, chemistry, mathematics and electronics) combination.

The toppers, their colleges, teachers and parents were on cloud nine when the PU II results were announced on Wednesday.

Thanking her parents, teachers and college, Ms. Divya said she aspires to become an engineer as she is very interested in math. She has scored 100 in physics, mathematics and biology, 98 in chemistry, 99 in Hindi and 94 in English.

“I am very excited and satisfied. I was confident I would score above 590, and I did,” said Ms. Divya, daughter of Bhavana and A. Rajesh, a businessman.

Ms. Akhila, daughter of Guruprakash and Srikanthamani, was the cynosure of all eyes when she went to her college after the results were announced. “I made use of my college library to the fullest. I owe my success to my parents, teachers and my college,” she said.

Ms. Akhila too dreams of becoming an engineer. She has scored 99 in physics, chemistry and biology, 98 in mathematics, 100 in Sanskrit and 96 in English. “I used to study for five to six hours every day ahead of the examinations. I got more time to prepare for chemistry because of the postponements.”

Fascinated by robotics

Meanwhile, Ms. Hymavathi is aiming for a career in robotics. Interestingly, she did not take private tuitions ahead of the exams and always chose to turn to her college faculty to clarify doubts. “During college, I used to study for 3-4 hours daily. Later, I would study for 8-9 hours. I stepped up exam preparation after December. The model question papers helped me a lot,” she said.

She now plans to do her Bachelors in either computer science or electronics engineering.

Her parents B.K. Udayashankar, an advocate, and Gowramma, a retired official, were in jubilant mood over their daughter’s performance.

Incidentally, Ms. Hymavathi had stood third in the State in her SSLC examination from Sadvidya School.

Mr. Prajwal too said model question papers were a big help. “I used to approach my teachers to clarify my doubts before leaving college. I used to refer to both textbooks and my class notes,” he said. He has scored 100 in physics, chemistry and mathematics, 99 in electronics, 98 in Sanskrit and 93 in English.

Mr. Prajwal, son of BSNL employee Mruthyunjaya Kumar and Girija Devi, said he never used to waste time and study at least for six hours a day. His dream is to become an electronics engineer.
