Loadman attacked in dispute over ganja dies

A 35-year-old loadman who was attacked in a dispute over ganja died at the hospital on Wednesday. The victim had approached a fellow loadman at the market in an inebriated state, seeking ganja. When the latter refused, a quarrel ensued during which the loadman was attacked with a knife, police said.

Coimbatore: A 35-year-old loadman who was attacked in a dispute over ganja died at the hospital on Wednesday. The victim had approached a fellow loadman at the market in an inebriated state, seeking ganja. When the latter refused, a quarrel ensued during which the loadman was attacked with a knife, police said.
The deceased was identified as Sankar from Muthukulathur in Ramanathapuram district.
According to police, Sankar had come down to Coimbatore in search of job and was staying in Saibaba Colony after finding work as a loadman at M G R market. Nandakumar, 34, from Thudiyalur and Gandhivel, 27, from Kavundampalayam, were also working in the market as loadmen.
On May 22, Sankar and Nandhakumar got drunk and while returning home, they spotted Gandhi smoking ganja near the bus stand. Sankar approached Gandhi, asking for some ganja. "It led to a quarrel between the two leading to a physical altercation. In the melee, Gandhi pulled out a knife and attacked Sankar,'' police said.
