Harda abduction fallout: Lawyers' stir till May 30
Bhopal: City lawyers on Wednesday decided to extend their strike till May 30 after police failed to trace the city lawyer and his brother who were allegedly abducted from Harda district on May 23. The decision was reached in the general body meeting of the district bar council even as the lawyers boycotted the court work.
Naveen Agarwal, a city-based lawyer, has 30 acres of ancestral land in Mohanpur village of Harda district.
Agarwal's family had a dispute with one Jagdish Rajput of the same village over seven acres of land.
Naveen along with his brother Sudhir, who is a trader in Harda, went to their ancestral village on May 23. Since then the duo is untraceable. Sources said the lawyer and his brother were abducted by Jagdish. Traders in Harda also observed strike to press for strict action by police while lawyers at Harda court also boycotted work.
Meanwhile, police have rounded up one of the accused from Indore.
"Nikhil Tiwari, who was with the accused, was found in Indore. Tiwari informed that he was dropped at Vijay Nagar square by four of his friends who were in a Vista car and denied having any information about the victims. However, investigations are still underway. We have constituted a five-member team to probe into the matter," Harda SP Prembabu Sharma told TOI.
Senior police officials from Bhopal met the family members of Agarwal at Harda. President of the state bar association, TP Viswakarma, said, "A meeting of the general body was called and it was decided that we will boycott work till Monday when another meeting will be held again to decide the future course of action. We also met the home minister and handed over a memorandum to him. A committee has also been constituted and a delegation of lawyers will visit Harda on Thursday to assess the situation."
