Nurses hired at AIIMS without advertisement
Bhopal: Hiring some nurses for three months without advertisement in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal has raised eyebrows. Interviews for nurses through outsourcing were carried out earlier this week despite the fact some 13,000 applications for posts of nurse on contractual basis are pending to be scrutinised.
Questions over transparency of the process notwithstanding, AIIMS administration maintains the process is required to start more services in the premier institute.
"Our intentions are noble. We advertised for recruitment of nurses on contractual basis. However, scrutiny of the applications would take time and we need to fast-track recruitment for starting more hospital services," said AIIMS Bhopal deputy director administration (DDA) Neeresh Sharma.
Around 10 of the 20 candidates were not selected and they were hired through outsourcing is only for three months, he said. "The process is transparent enough," he said. Permanent recruitments have been put on hold after a stay by Madhya Pradesh high court (MPHC).
Results of interviews were not known, but certain candidates, who appeared for the interview have been linked with AIIMS Bhopal employees, sources alleged. "AIIMS Bhopal administration has all along been critical of previous administration for hiring staffers through outsourcing. It is going the same route," said an employee, seeking anonymity. "If there was no advertisement, how is the process transparent," he said.
Another controversy issue is brewing for the administration. A delegation of outsourced and contractual employees of AIIMS Bhopal-led by Sanjeev Dubey has approached the Union ministry of health and public welfare (MoHFW) for one-time relaxation, seeking permanent status for contractual employees. The move has a backing of some influential politicians, but is opposed by the AIIMS administration and MoHFW.
"We have requested the administration and MoHFW for considering a one-time exemption as we have been employees of AIIMS Bhopal for long duration," Dubey said. "The administration has the power to relax," he said.
