CBI gets graft complaints against STF officials
Bhopal: CBI team investigating Vyapam scam has started getting complaints of 'illegal gratification' against STF officials who were probing the scam prior to the transfer of the probe to the national agency. And most of the complainants were arrested for their alleged role in scam during STF's investigations.
In one of the most recent complaint an accused Sudhir Rai has made a written submission alleging that he was asked to pay Rs 10 lakh to Ashish Khare, additional SP, STF, one of the key investigators through an inspector between February 27 to March 3, 2015.
Rai alleged the investigator had threatened to implicate him in Vyapam scam and he did so after he failed to meet their demand. He has voluntarily given his consent for a narco-analysis test in his letter to CBI, demanding action against two STF officers.
CBI has already initiated inquiry against one of them, said sources. Rai was arrested in 2015 in connection with illegal admission of a student in PMT, 2012. He was linked to alleged racketeers Dr Sanjeev Shilpkar and Jabalpur based Santosh Gupta. STF's evidence against the applicant was a list of students seized from the e- mail ID of the candidate sent to Santosh Gupta.
Rai remained in jail for nearly two years and was bailed out by the high court recently despite objections from the CBI. Assistant Solicitor General for CBI had contended there was evidence available against Rai for commission of such offence. He had virtually acted as a kingpin along with the co-accused and, therefore, he was not entitled to be released on bail. "Since the offence is not only against the students, who were admitted without having merits, but, it affected the society and in such a scam a racketeer like the applicant is not entitled to be released on bail," CBI had argued.
After hearing the counsel for the parties and going through the documents made available, high court considered the view that Rai's case was not different than that of the person, who were enlarged on bail being mediators.
