II PU exam results: Remote Udupi village bags three ranks in Top 10

A little-known educational institution in the remote village of Kukkundoor of Udupi taluk bagged three ranks in the II PU examination -- second and fifth rank in science and one in commerce -- of the top ten ranks in the state. Alvas PU College in Moodbidri bagged the sixth and ninth rank in commerce. Interestingly, no student from city PU colleges secured any ranks

Mangaluru/Udupi: A little-known educational institution in the remote village of Kukkundoor of Udupi taluk bagged three ranks in the II PU examination -- second and fifth rank in science and one in commerce -- of the top ten ranks in the state. Alvas PU College in Moodbidri bagged the sixth and ninth rank in commerce.
Interestingly, no student from city PU colleges secured any ranks.
Science students Neha D Shetty (595), Pooja Nayak (593) and commerce student Raksha Shenoy (593) from Karakala Jnanasudha PU College are the rank holders.
"I would never study at home due to distractions and the college library was my favourite place where I'd sit for more than nine hours a day," said Neha who is from a small village near Nitte. Her mother Savitha D Shetty is a homemaker and father Dayanand Shetty is a mechanic who works in Qatar. She scored 100 in chemistry, physics, computer science and maths. "I lost marks in languages. The chemistry exam, which was rescheduled and was for the third time and that was easier compared to the first (leaked) one. But I never expected a rank," she added.
About her plans, Neha said she wants to become a chemical engineer and will join NIT-K, Surathkal. She had secured Grade A in the class 10 CBSE exam.
Pooja Nayak secured fifth rank with 593 marks said she wants to become a doctor.
Vaishnavi Ballal, a science student of Expert PU College from the city, was disappointed at missing out on a rank despite scoring 100 in five subjects. She had taken PCMB with Sanskrit and English as languages. Vaishnavi told TOI she secured only 90 in English, "I expected more marks in English and will apply for revaluation," she said. At Alvas PU College, while both Aashik Narayan M and Daksha Jain, commerce students secured 593, the departmentof PU Education placed Aashik at the sixth rank and Daksha at ninth.
