PARIS: Pakistan ace Aisam-ul-Haq and his Canadian partner Daniel Nestor advanced to the second round of the French Open men’s doubles after they overcame the team of Italian Paolo Lorenzi and Spaniard Inigo Cervantes 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 on Wednesday.

The 14th-seeded duo will next face either the French pair of Paul-Henri Mathieu and Benoit Paire or the team of Britain’s Colin Fleming and Jonathan Erlich of Israel.

This is Aisam’s ninth appearance at Roland Garros and his 34th in Grand Slam events. His best performance in the Paris clay was reaching the semi-finals in 2012.
