Taliban’s Omari Offensive Has Failed: Gen. Shahim

TIRINKOT - Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qadam Shah Shahim on Wednesday said the Taliban’s Omari offensive had failed and their leader was killed where he ascended to the group leadership.
Gen. Shahim told this on Tuesday to a gathering involving military and civil officials and tribal elders during a visit to central Uruzgan province.
He said they had come to Uruzgan to assess the security situation and thanked the security forces for bravely defending the soil and the masses.
The general said the Taliban were facing a historic defeat in their movement and their Omari offensive had completely failed.
He called on the Taliban to accept the Afghanistan Constitution and reconcile with the unity government, otherwise they would meet the fate of Osama bin Laden, Mullah Omar, Mullah Masnour and Mullah Biradar.
Shahim assured the people of Uruzgan that a major military operation would be launched soon in the province to improve the security situation and reopen roads which had been blocked.
Governor Mohammad Nazir Kharotai praised efforts of security forces and said they did not allow the enemy to capture an area. (Pajhwok)
