In the Maharashtra Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination, the results of which were announced on Wednesday, girls once again outdid boys, with 90.5 per cent of girls clearing the exam against 83.46 per cent of boys.
However, the total pass percentage of students dropped by around 4 per cent from last year to 86.60 per cent, with 11,42,882 out of 13,19,754 students clearing the examination.
The Konkan region came out on top again, despite a slightly lower pass percentage: 93.29 per cent students passed this year, as compared to 95.68 per cent last year. Nashik also repeated history, with a pass percentage of 83.99, placing it last among the nine regional divisions. In 2015, Nashik’s pass percentage was 88.13 per cent.
Among the top-scorers in Mumbai was Siddhi Bandekar from Shivaji Park in Dadar, who topped in the Arts stream, scoring 91.23 per cent. The Ramnarain Ruia College student told The Hindu that it was because of the support of her family and teachers that she managed to top the arts list. Ms. Bandekar, who scored 100 per cent in Logic, said, “I never imagined topping the college and this is an amazing day in my life. I had pre-decided to pursue law, which I am sure will turn into reality now.”
