II PU: some districts retain their slot, some stoop to new lows

While some districts retained their position, some others dropped to new lows when the results of the II PU exam was announced on Wednesday.

Dharwad

Dharwad district slipped to the 15th position from 14th last year. The district’s aggregate pass percentage stood at 62.86 against 67.25 last year. Haveri district too slipped from 10th position (71.58 per cent) in 2015 to 18th position (60.54 per cent). Although Gadag district has improved its position from 31st to 29th position, the aggregate result has decreased from 51.02 per cent to 49.28. per cent. Krupa A. Jain of Prerana PU College and Neha Hubballi of Vidyaniketan Pre-University Science College of Hubballi stood first in the district in the science stream. Both Ms. Krupa and Ms. Neha secured 587 marks each. Prateek Barge, the students of Aryabhata Pre-University College of Dharwad scored 585 marks.

Belagavi

Belagavi district improved its performance and secured 16th position. Last year, the district stood at 17th position. The pass percentage is 62.05. According to M.F. Gurav, Deputy Director of PU Education, the district had slipped from 14th place in 2014 to 17th position in 2015, even though the overall pass percentage had gone up from 58.7 to 64.87. Government Pre-University College at Hallur of Gokak registered a hat-trick by achieving 100 per cent results for the third consecutive year this year. Parvati Bhadrashetty, a student from the arts stream, became the topper in the college by securing 93.33 per cent. Mr. Gurav said that the details of college toppers had been not made available. However, all the colleges in the district had been asked to inform about their scores by Thursday morning.

Ballari

Despite a fall in the pass percentage by 4.39, Ballari district retained its position at the State level.

The district was in the 20th position last year with an overall pass percentage of 63.48 and this year the pass percentage is 59.09.

P. Anita, Shama Annigeri, Prakash Mattihalli and Vinoda Kumbar of Indu Independent PU College at Kottur were among the top 10 at the State level in the arts stream.

Anita secured 585 out of 600 marks to top the list while Shama scored 574, Prakash and Vinoda scored 572 each.

Of the total 15,046 who appeared for the exam, 8,891 passed. Girls fared better than boys with the pass percentage being 55,74 and 43.38, respectively. Around 60.21 per cent of the total students passed were from urban areas, while only 53.39 percent were from rural areas.

The highest pass percentage was in the science stream.

As many as 3,673 of the 5,267 students in the science stream passed (69.74 per cent).

In commerce stream 2.986 of the 4,683 students passed (63.76 per cent). In arts stream, of the 5,096 students, 2,232 passed (43.8 per cent).

Koppal

Koppal district improved its position in the district-wise ranking. The district, which was at the 27th position last year has secured 26th position this year.

The district recorded an overall pass percentage of 54.32. As many as 3,844 out of the total 7,076 students passed. Last year the pass percentage was 58.35.

The pass percentage in the commerce stream was the highest at 67.14 with 1,504 of the 2,240 who appeared for the exam cleared it. zThe pass percentage in the science stream was 54.68 and 602 of the 1,101 students who wrote the exam passed. In the arts stream 1,738 of the 3,735 students who wrote the exam passed (46.33 percent).

Of the 2,784 students from rural areas, 1,642 passed recording a pass percentage of 58.98.

Urban areas

The pass percentage in urban areas is 51.3 with 2,202 of 4,292 students passing it.

Girls have fared better than boys with 51.67 pass percentage compared to boys 36.17 percent.

Raziya Begum of Aralagouda PU College Kushtagi topped the district in the arts stream by securing 555 out of 600 marks. Rekha Chennalli of Kere Basaveshwar PU College Karatagi secured 552 marks; Doddabasava of Sankalp PU College Gangavati and Gangamma of CMN College Karatagi secured 548 marks each.

In the science stream, Shabana begum of AKRD PU College Gangavati topped the list with 571 marks followed by Ashwini of the same college (568).

Dixit of Yelamanchali PU College Gangavati scored 568 marks and Darshini of JSS PU College, Gangavati, scored 566 marks. In the commerce stream, Meghana of Reddy Veeranna PU College Gangavati topped the list with 582 marks. Vinuta of Sankalp PU College Gangavati scored 576 marks and Shravani of AKRD PU College, Gangavati, scored 570 marks.

Chitradurga

The efforts by the authorities to improve the pass percentage in Chitradurga did not yield results as the district has slipped to 30th position.

The district recoded a pass percentage of 47.55 as compared to 56.67 last time. Last year, the district was at the 28th position.

Same position

Meanwhile, Davangere district has maintained its position when it comes to pass percentage.

The district recorded 58.01 per cent and has remained at the 21st position.

Last year, the district had recorded a pass percentage of 62.71.

Santosh, son of Basavarajappa and Sumangalamma secured 578 marks in the arts stream. Santosh is a student of SUJM Pre-university College at Harapanhalli.

Rakesh Kallahalli, son of Prakash and Gangamma, secured 573 marks. Rakesh was a student of SSH Jain –Pre-university college at Harapanhalli taluk in Davangere district.
