Sanitation works linked to employment scheme

May 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - NIZAMABAD:

Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, here on Wednesday, disclosed that pros and cons for selecting the district on pilot basis to link the sanitation works at villages with Employment Guarantee Scheme would be examined. Since the gram panchayats were starved of funds this proposal came up from authorities, he said.

At an official review on his arrival in the district at Dichpally mandal headquarters, he said that the process for making tribal hamlets inhabited by more than 500 people as unit was already on and the coming local body elections would be held in new Gram Panchayats also. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was very particular and interested in it, he said.

Appreciating the district to secure the national-level award for its excellent performance in the execution of the Employment Guarantee Scheme work, the Minister said that this was a record. The district should be taken as a role model in the implementation of the EGS works as it generated a record number of work days for coolies and also pay order within three days of completion of work, he added.

Earlier, District Collector Yogitha Rana gave a power point presentation on the EGS works and linkage of Harithaharam, construction of ISLs and soak pits to the scheme. She said that the SC, ST and weaker sections were largely participating in the EGS works resulting in stoppage of labour migration from villages.

Mr. Krishna Rao said that over 50 lakh job cards were distributed to rescue the poor in this long dry season. Infrastructure was being created in gram panchayats, anganwadis, agriculture warehouses and construction of the ISLs, Harithaharam and Indira Jala Prabha works were also being done under the scheme, he said.

In interaction with local residents at G.K Tanda, Yellareddipally and Lolam villages in Dharpally mandal the Minister said that all measures were being taken to provide necessary facilities to coolies at the EGS work sites.

On his arrival at the TSSP 7th Battalion headquarters at Dichpally he was received by MLA Bajireddy Govardhan.
