PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Wednesday blamed “manufactured” opinion polls for his party’s rout in the recently concluded Assembly elections in the State. He accused a section of the media of siding with the Dravidian parties and not pushing for a political change in the State.

Commenting about the opinion polls conducted in the run-up to the elections, Dr. Ramadoss alleged that a section of the media indulged in “manufacturing of consent” in the name of opinion polls.

'They imposed their wishes on the people'

“They imposed their wishes on the psyche of the people,” he charged, adding, “One such media house is owned by a person who is allegedly involved in illegal sand mining and has been involved in a Rs 70-lakh scam.”

While the PMK might not have won any seat, he pointed out that the election results show that the party had taken the third place behind the AIADMK and the DMK.

“The PMK came second in four constituencies, third in 64 seats and polled more than 50,000 votes in six seats. This clearly shows that the PMK is third in the pecking order,” he said.

He also accused the Election Commission and the police of acting in favour of the ruling party. “Why did they defer the elections in two constituencies? Money was found in the cars of two Returning Officers. Police also worked for them. The priceless right to vote in a democracy was purchased by these parties for a price,” he claimed. The PMK leader alleged that the alliance of corrupt Dravidian parties and the media destroyed his son Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss’ dreams.
