The second PU result of Lakshmi, a resident of J.P. Nagar here, is inspirational for many reasons.
After passing her Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exam, Ms. Lakshmi had to discontinue her studies because of personal reasons. After a gap of three years, she chose to go back to college without putting any financial burden on her parents.
She took up a job in an auditor’s office and started earning, and thereafter took admission in Marimallappa’s Evening PU College.
Though she did not get ample time for studies, for she had to balance work and college, Ms. Lakshmi scored 549 out of 600 in the Commerce stream, making her college, parents and teachers proud. “We are all proud of her feat,” said college principal Rajeshwari.
Ms. Lakshmi said, “I had some problems in the beginning while managing work with studies. But gradually, I got used to the routine. I used to go back home after college at 10.30 p.m., and then study till 12.30 a.m.”
Ms. Lakshmi, who is the daughter of a coconut vendor, aspires to take up B.Com in an evening college and continue her studies without any break. She has scored 100 in Sanskrit, 95 in economics, 88 in business studies, 84 in geography, 86 in English, and 96 in accountancy.
When the odds didn’t matter
Another student of the same college, Shivananda, a native of Manvi in Raichur district, too has managed to do well.
After having discontinued formal education eight years ago, Mr. Shivananda, who works as a technician for Sobha Developers at the Infosys campus, has scored 461 marks.
“I understood how important education is in a person’s life. Though I had completed first PU several years ago, I joined it once again to prove myself. Though I am not a topper, the result has given me satisfaction. Now I can go for higher education without taking a break,” he said.
