While students from Dakshina Kannada fared better than those from other districts in the State in II PU exam, the results of which were declared on Wednesday, only two from the district figured among the toppers. There were no toppers in the Science and Arts streams.
Aashik Narayan M. and Daksha Jain, both from Alva’s Pre-University College Moodbdri, were ranked sixth and ninth, respectively, in the Commerce stream. Several students from the district scored cent per cent marks in five subjects in Commerce, Arts and Science streams. Nearly 20 colleges recorded 100 per cent results.
With 593 marks, Mr. Narayan hopes to get a seat in Shri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi. “I will have more than the cut off marks. I want to do the three-year B.Com (Honours) course in that prestigious college.” He said that he was writing CACPT, the first level of Chartered Accountancy examinations, on June 19. “I intend to become a CA and have my own firm,” Mr. Narayan said.
Mr. Narayan, a native of Manjeshwar in Kerala, is the eldest of the two children of Ganapathi Prasad, associate vice-president in JSW Steel in Hosapete, and Asha Bharathi, Associate Professor (Electronics and Communication Department), RYM College, Ballari.
Ms. Jain, who scored 593 marks, said it was her father Praveenchandra Jain’s involvement in preparing students for competitive examination that instilled her the desire to strive to become an IAS officer. Mr. Jain has been running an institute in Moodbidri to train students for the last two years. “I have already started my preparations,” Ms. Jain said. She is yet to make a choice between B.Com or LLB.
Among the many who have scored 100 per cent marks in five subjects include Vaishnavi Ballal, a student of Expert PU College, who has scored 590 marks in the Science stream.
Like her father Rajesh Ballal, a doctor, Ms. Vaishavai wants to enter the field of medicine. She intends to become a neurosurgeon. With an eye for a seat in All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Vaishnavi has already written NEET-1. She said she will also write NEET-2 in July.
