The Ernakulam Rural police on Wednesday arrested a 56-year-old woman on charges of cheating. The accused, identified as Ancy Eapen, a professor with a college in Aluva, was arrested on a complaint by one Biju John. Based on a tip-off, she was arrested from a hideout by a police team led by Honey K. Das, Sub Inspector, Aluva.

As per the complaint, the accused cheated Mr. John after making him as the guarantor to obtain a vehicle loan from a private finance company. Soon after purchasing the car, the accused did not repay the loan amount and sold the car to a Kannur-based vehicle scrap unit.

The cheating came to light when the financier began initiating recovery proceedings against the guarantor.
