Govt. urged to take up sand sale

May 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Tamil Nadu Sand Lorries Owners Federation on Wednesday urged the State government to take up sale of sand directly through the Public Works Department. In a memorandum to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, the Federation sought a change in the system of sand sale. Instead of the PWD having loading contracts with private parties, it could sell the sand. We want Amma sand. This will prevent the second sale of sand by which the price is artificially hiked by a few persons. The PWD can have sand stock yards from where sand can be sold,” said federation president Chella Rajamani.
