Two persons, including a juvenile offender, were caught red-handed when they attempted to loot an ATM of a nationalised bank in Chithode limits early on Wednesday morning.

According to police sources, Dinakaran (21) alias Dina and his 16-year-old accomplice had tried to break open the ATM when a passer-by sensed the crime and raised an alarm.

The duo were cornered by the public and later handed over to the Chithode police. A case has been registered by the police.

The Chithode police had Dinakaran remanded in judicial custody at the Coimbatore Central Jail. The juvenile boy will be sent to an observation home, the sources said.

Both the accused were repeat offenders, and, had in the past, been booked in pick-pocket cases, the sources added.
