The Congress has geared up to counter the BJP’s claim of achievements of the Modi government in the last two years by showing a mirror to it of promises Narendra Modi has made during the Lok Sabha elections in 2014. It is also bringing out a booklet “Do Saal, Desh Ka Bura Haal” and top leaders of the party will address press conferences in 27 cities on May 26 and in 25 cities on May 28.

Among the heavyweights, P. Chidambaram, Mallikarjun Kharge, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Digvijay Singh, M. Veerappa Moily, Jairam Ramesh and Manish Tewari will address press conferences at different places to “put the record straight” on the promises and performance of the Modi government.

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, AICC chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said: “On May 26th 2014, Narendra Modiji led the BJP to its biggest-ever victory. But the two years thereafter, the Modi government has utterly failed on most important indices of development. In the last 24 months, the government is yet to begin with its principal agenda of governance, delivery and development. It has become a government of rhetoric and theatrics in the last two years.”

He said that completely enamoured by the personality of the PM, the BJP has failed 125 crore people of India. On the principal slogan of “Sab ka saath, sab ka vikas”, on which they came to power, the entire country expected from Mr Modi that governance would be the centrepoint of the agenda, but two key issues which have been missing in the last 24 months are development and government. He said the Congress leaders will pan across the entire country and will hold press conferences.

The Congress will be releasing a short video on 10 key issues where the government has failed miserably. On May 26, the Congress shall release a comprehensive booklet on the principal issues of agriculture, agrarian crises, mis-management of economy, corruption, black money, dangers of internal security, women, youth, students and blow to their aspirations and anti-dalit agenda of the government and on many flagship programmes of the government and its truth.

He said the party has received a graphic from an ordinary citizen whom we have accepted as a theme of our campaign which is ‘Pragati ki tham gyi chaal, do saal desh ka bura haal’.
