Watch: Nomar Mazara belts 491–foot home run, longest in MLB this year

Rangers rookie outfielder Nomar Mazara hit the longest home run of the season on Wednesday, a 491-foot bomb in the second inning off Angels lefty Hector Santiago to give bring Texas within two.

Mazara’s homer left his bat at 108 mph, according to Statcast, at an angle of 27 degrees. His homer is the third-longest of the Statcast era, behind Kris Bryant’s 495-foot blast and Michael Taylor at 493.

It was Mazara’s eighth homer of the year.

The 21-year-old saw a good amount of playing time with Shin-Soo Choo on the shelf due to injury earlier in the year, and will continue to be a mainstay in the lineup after Choo was placed on the DL again with a hamstring issue.
