Villagers pool in resources to save water

Making a strong pitch for conserving water during the monsoon season, the volunteers of Jal Chetna Yatra have launched campaigns in villages of Allahabad and Pratapgarh district, asking villagers to take steps to check the depleting groundwater table and conserve water. Apart from restoring of old pond in rural areas, the volunteers have also been appealing villagers to adopt recycling of used water. The campaign is being undertaken in five blocks of the two districts. The volunteers hold chaupals and convince villagers to conserve water and recharge groundwater.

Allahabad: Making a strong pitch for conserving water during the monsoon season, the volunteers of Jal Chetna Yatra have launched campaigns in villages of Allahabad and Pratapgarh district, asking villagers to take steps to check the depleting groundwater table and conserve water. Samaj Shekhar, convener of Jal Chetna Yatra said that majority of villager do not know about the recycling of used water and there is a need to create awareness on it.
He said that people of over three dozen villages have joined hands to restore old ponds to collect rain water. Women too have joined 'Jal Bachao' campaign. They pledged to make efforts to collect rain water so that it could recharge ground water.
