Visual arts faculty of BHU ranks top in survey again

Varanasi: Faculty of visual arts in Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was ranked first for the second consecutive year in the fine arts category of a national survey conducted between December 2015 and April 2016.
The survey was conducted to determine the best undergraduate colleges across various disciplines including fine arts. The results were announced on May 20.
The faculty ranked on top in 2015 too.
However, in a similar survey in 2014, the faculty bagged the second position while fine arts faculty, Baroda College, MS University claimed the top position.
Talking to TOI on Wednesday, dean of faculty of visual arts, Hira Lal Prajapati said, "It is an honour for us to have been ranked first for the second consecutive year in the fine arts category from among the best of colleges. It is even more special as the results of both the surveys were announced in the centenary year of BHU."
Attributing the amalgamation of cultural traditions and modernity in the university as the reason for being adjudged first, Prajapati said, efforts are being made to upgrade the faculty to an institute at par with the National Institute of Design and a proposal for expansion of faculty, along with the arrangement of separate hostels for boys and girls, has been given to the administration.

"A 100-room hostel has already been approved for girls and with approval of hostel for boys, we would mull over the idea of introducing night classes for students like in the West," he said.
Prajapati said with improvement in infrastructure and facilities more students from across the globe will take admissions here and boost the status of the university. He said that since last couple of years, 8-10 foreign nationals have been taking admissions at the faculty in each academic session.
Meanwhile, Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, faculty of law, BHU and Indian Institute of Technology, BHU also managed to secure places among top 20 in the survey this year.
