PUNE: Indian shooters remained empty handed on the concluding day of the ISSF Munich World Cup on Wednesday.
Shooting in the 10m air pistol qualification round, Heena Sidhu shot 384. Though she shot one point less than the eighth qualified shooter, the margin can’t be termed small as there were three other shooters who had shot 384 and were placed between Heena and the eighth shooter.
As the three shooters shot more number of ‘inner 10s’ than Heena, the Indian finished 12th in a field of 105 shooters.
Other Indians in the fray, Shweta Singh (378) and Shri Nivetha P (377) finished 47th and 52nd respectively.
Serbian shooter Bobana Velickovic won gold (199.7), while Sonia Franquet of Spain won the silver after shooting 199.1. China’s Mengxue Zhang won the bronze with a score of 179.4.
In the men’s 50m rifle 3position event, India’s lone shooter Chain Singh finished 38th.
Army’s Chain, who will be shooting in the Rio Olympics, shot 1170 in the qualification round.
Chain had decent series in the kneeling (391) and prone category (393), but the army shooter couldn’t shoot well in the standing position and finished with 386 points.
American veteran Matthew Emmons shot 464.1 in the final to win gold, while Serbia’s Milenko Sebic was placed second with a score of 460.1. Gernot Rumpler of Austria won bronze (448.0).
Jitu Rai is the only Indian who made it to the finals in this edition of the World Cup. Jitu, who is ranked No. 1 in the 50m pistol, finished fourth in the event.
The fourth and last edition of ISSF World Cup will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from June 20.
