This rhino wears his heart in his horn

This rhino had a big heart — on his horn!

The rhino had his horn removed by veterinarians to save him from poachers — and during the procedure, doctors realized it had a heart on the base.

“Amazingly, there was a perfect imprint of a heart on one of the rhino’s horns,” Dr. William Fowlds, of the Kragga Kamma Game Park in South Africa, told Caters News Agency.

The legal procedure, which involves using power tools and a chain saw, has become the go-to way to protect the species from getting butchered by poachers.

Fowld’s team at Kragga Kamma made the decision to do the procedure on a bunch of the animals at the park in Port Elizabeth when they heard poachers had plans to come and attack the animals.

“We love our rhinos, but to save them, we have to maim them,” Fowlds said.
