The Kumbh Mela, the once in four years mega celebration is held by rotation in four places in India.

When it’s the largest festival in the world, elaborate preparations is a given. Kumbh Mela celebrated in Ujjain this year was no different. Firstpost takes you behind the scenes of what it took to make this mass pilgrimage. The Madhya Pradesh government spared no expense and spent a whopping Rs 3,000 crore on this month-long festival. From installing free water kiosks for over a 100 million people visiting the gathering to deploying 25,000 police personnel, building up of six satellite towns, 14 new flyovers, 34,000 toilets and bomb disposable squads, the preparation for this version of the Kumbh Mela was an epic in event management.
