Alleged murderers of Birgunj trader held after 16 years

BIRGUNJ: Police have arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in murder of a businessman after robbing him around 16 years ago, from Birgunj of Parsa district on Wednesday.

Police said Dharmendra Patel of Bhikhampur-9 in Parsa district and Devendra Patel of Birgunj-17 reportedly shot dead Shreeram Prasad Rauniyar on July 22, 2000.

Rauniyar had owned the Shaudagar Petrol Pump at Bahuari in Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan City-17.

The duo have already confessed their crime, said SP Raju Babu Shrestha.

Shrestha further added that the duo were arrested after getting a tip-off in coordination with Central Investigation Bureau, Kathmandu.

Shrestha added that Rauniyar was shot dead by the motorcycle-borne Patel duo at around 10 pm in front of Hariyali Restaurant by the Baipas Road in Birgunj.

The duo have been detained in the District Police Office for further investigation.

Meanwhile, police have not revealed details of two others supposedly involved in the murder of Rauniyar.

Police said they are preparing to file a murder case against the duo.
