Buses with panic button for women launched

New Delhi, May 25 (UNI) Buses equipped with panic buttons and CCTV cameras were today dedicated to the public by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari under the Nribhaya scheme for ensuring women safety.
These buses operate in Rajsthan on a pilot basis. A notification for bringing these norms related to the safety equipment in buses will come into force from June 2.
“To ensure safety of women after the unfortunate Nirbhaya incident, we have decided to make it mandatory for public transport buses to install emergency panic buttons, CCTV cameras and GPS-enabled vehicle tracking devices,” Mr Gadkari said while launching the buses.
