Randeep Surjewala, a member of the Indian National Congress, on Wednesday, May 25, questioned Modi government's decision of choosing Amitabh Bachchan to host the 2 years' celebrations of the party.
In his speech, he said, "The whole country respects and honours Amitabh Bachchan and Narendra Modi. While we are sure that Amitabh Bachchan is innocent and the same will be clear after investigation, if a person is being investigated for black money, which Mr Bachchan is in connection to his name cropping up in the Panama papers investigation, then he can't host an official event."
However, in an interview with Times Now, Amitabh Bachchan has clarified that he is hosting only a segment, 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' at the event.
He has also been the brand ambassador for the UN Girl Child Mission. On being questioned as to what would he do now, Big B said, "Let the government decide since the government has invited me." The event, being held on the occasion of is being hosted by R Madhavan.
Industry veteran, Rishi Kapoor, too has backed Amitabh Bachchan and said, "Don't see reason for such attack. I don't think someone of his stature should be subjected to that. What he is doing is a noble cause."
Paresh Rawal, too, came forward in support of both Amitabh Bachchan and Narendra Modi. He said, "Congress has no issue. They are only searching for issues. Just like the #AwardWapsi campaign, this is another manner in which they are targetting the Modi government." When asked if the Congress party should apologise, Paresh replied in a rather cheeky manner. He said, "Why ask them to apologise, people are as it is forgetting them."
