PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will set up deaddiction centres. The centres will help PMC officials, parents of municipal school students and common citizens.
The civic body has planned to join hands with Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)_ which is an international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. It is nonprofessional, self-supporting, multiracial, apolitical organisation available almost everywhere.
There are no age or education requirements for becoming part of this group. Membership is open to anyone, who wants to do something about his or her drinking problem.
"A joint project should be implemented with the organisation. The civic properties including the civic school classrooms should be made available free of cost for these centres. It will help the civic officials as well as municipal workers. Deaddiction service can be extended to the parents of municipal school students as it will help in reducing the absenteeism in these schools," said the proposal given by Ravindra Malvadkar, a co-opted member of PMC.
The standing committee of PMC on Tuesday discussed the proposal but the decision been postponed and expected in the next meeting.
“We have given the proposal to the civic administration for study. Their review report will be submitted to us in a few days after which we will take a final call on starting these centres,” said Balasaheb Bodke, chairman of the committee, while speaking to reporters.
