Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has urged Roy Hodgson to gamble on Marcus Rashford this summer.
The Manchester United sensation is in the Three Lions' provisional squad for Euro 2016 but three men will be cut from the list before flying to France.
Rashford's rapid rise to stardom at United saw him become Hodgson's surprise inclusion when he announced his squad earlier this month.
And Eriksson has urged the current manager to follow through with his decision and take him all the way to France.
He told The Sun: “You should always take a gamble with a special player. As the England manager, you want options - players who can do something unexpected and make a difference.”
Eriksson was the manager who famously sent a 17-year-old Theo Walcott to the 2006 World Cup ahead of in-form players such as Darren Bent and Jermain Defoe.
Defoe was again snubbed in favour of a breakthrough star this summer, despite his goals keeping Sunderland in the Premier League in recent months.
Eriksson believes that Rashford has shown the qualities needed to be a successful international while playing for United.
He claims his pace, goalscoring record and maturity will stand him in good stead.
Eriksson, who is now manager of shanghai SIPG in the Chinese Super League, added: “The other countries won’t know much about Rashford and will not have faced him.
“Rashford has already shown he can handle big pressure. He has come straight into one of the biggest teams in the world and it hasn't scared him, he has done so well."
