There is no substitute to hard work and this is what students who topped the second Pre-University Course (PUC) attest.
Ramya M., who bagged the third rank in science stream by securing 594 marks out of 600, said daily revision helped her understand the concepts. A student of N.M.K.R.V. PU College for Women, she said she was just a “regular student”. “I also opted for private coaching, which helped me a great deal. My parents always motivated me to study and perform well,” she added.
Chayashree V., who topped the commerce stream by securing 594 out of 600 marks, attributed her success to her teachers. “I also followed a rigourous study routine every day. On most days, three hours of study was sufficient. While I was confident of most subjects, I opted for coaching for mathematics,” she said. A student of M.E.S. PU College, Chayashree now plans to take up chartered accountancy.
Another topper of the commerce stream, Deeksha Nayak, a student of Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain PU College, has secured 594 out of 600 marks. “Attending class regularly and being punctual was a key factor to my success. I was not apprehensive about the exams. I attended a private coaching institute for accounting,” she said and added that she hopes to pursue chartered accountancy.
Second rank holder in the commerce stream, Nagapooja S.N., a student of PES PU College, opined that poring over her textbooks really helped. “My parents and teachers supported me and aided me throughout the year. Though I took private tuitions, it was more for revision. My mother asked me to attend tuitions, though I already had a good understanding of my subjects,” she said.
Another second rank holder in the commerce stream, Lolika S. is a student of PES PU College. She said she put in four hours of study every day. Lolika now wants to study B.Com, while pursuing chartered accountancy.
Poverty did not come in the way of P. Anita from Ballari district, who topped the arts stream. “Hard work, around six hours of study every day and taking monthly tests seriously helped me. My teachers and family also motivated me,” she said and added that she wants to take up civil services. Her father is a banana vendor in Kottur, Kudligi taluk in Ballari district. “I was speechless when Anita told me her result. I will do my best to help her pursue higher education,” he said.
Second rank holder in the arts stream, Tania Martha Thomas is a student from Christ Junior College. She scored 580 marks out of 600. She now hopes to continue in Christ University and wants to opt for administrative services. Tania was part the cultural team and even participated in many inter-college debate competitions. “I was surprised after I heard I was the second rank holder. I just studied for myself!” she added.
Aishwarya V Yajaman, student of Masters PU College in Hassan, secured the fourth place in the science stream by securing 593 of total 600 marks. She scored 100 each in physics, mathematics and Sanskrit, 99 each in chemistry and biology and 95 in English. She aspires to become a doctor and is expecting a good ranking in the Common Entrance Test. Incidentally, Aishwarya topped the district two years ago by securing 618 out of 625 in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination.
Fifth rank holder in the science stream Abhinandini H.R. is a student of Narayana PU College. Not satisfied with her marks, she said she will apply for re-evaluation. She hopes pursue engineering.
Vachanashree B. Patil, a student of Shaheen PU College in Bidar, has scored 590 marks (98.33 per cent) in the science stream. She scored 100 marks each in physics, chemistry and biology and 99 in Mathematics. She wants to be a doctor and take up research in medicine later.
