Umesh Kulkarni's 'Highway' might not have done well at the BO but, as is the case with all of his films, it has earned critical acclaim not just in India but abroad as well. The film was recently adjudged the Best Film at New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) and Umesh won the Best Director award as well.
It was a moment of pride for Umesh to receive the Best Film award from Salman Rushdie.
'I think life has come full circle now. Vihir had won the same award at this festival a few years ago and that too was given by Mr Rushdie, but unfortunately, neither Girish (Kulkarni) nor I could be present at the event then. I consider it a great honour to receive the award from him now. It motivates to tell stories fearlessly and the way you want,' shared Umesh.
