On May 6, a tourist surnamed Zhu entered Heizhugou, which is commonly known as the “Bermuda Triangle of China.” Before long, contact with Zhu was lost. In order to find him, his family offered a 200,000-yuan reward to anyone who could find him. But the reward was never paid out. Instead, on May 23, 17 days after Zhu went missing, Zhu miraculously emerged from Heizhugou by himself.

Zhu is an adventure travel fanatic. He has backpacked all around China. When he proposed to his fiancée, he used an aerial ladder truck and climbed to her balcony to pop the question. Even so, many people consider it a miracle that he got through Heizhugou alive.

Because of a 60-kilometer-long magnetic anomalous zone in Heizhugou, compass failure is a frequent issue in the area, and many humans and animals have gone missing there. But even when using advanced GPS systems instead of traditional compasses, a number of people have been lost.

In August 2014, after a five-person tour group went to Heizhugou for an adventure, three members of the party went missing. Two bodies were later recovered, but the team leader, Li Jing, has still not been found.
