AJ McCarron and wife, Katherine, celebrate birth of baby Tripp

The 2034 Alabama recruiting class might have its first member.

AJ McCarron, a Cincinnati Bengals backup quarterback and ex-starter on two national championship teams at Alabama, tweeted Tuesday night that his wife, Katherine, had just given birth to a "long" baby boy. The couple named the child Tripp.

McCarron had said earlier this month that he and his wife, the former Miss Alabama and Sports Illustrated model, had been expecting the baby's arrival to fall sometime Monday or Tuesday. Because of that, he spent Tuesday back home in Mobile, Alabama, with his growing family, instead of participating in the Bengals' start of organized team activities (OTAs).

The McCarrons have been in the national limelight since the 2012 college football season. That was the same year AJ McCarron led the Crimson Tide to the second of two national championships in which he served as the team's starter. It was during the second title game when his then-girlfriend, the former Katherine Webb, caught the attention of broadcasters and fans watching the game on television. The couple later married in the summer of 2014, a few months after McCarron was drafted by the Bengals in the fifth round.

AJ McCarron's mother, Dee Dee McCarron, also took to Twitter to announce Tripp's birth.

Last season was a milestone year in the NFL for McCarron, who filled in at the end of the season for Bengals starter Andy Dalton, after Dalton had suffered a season-ending thumb injury.

In four starts -- including the Bengals' 18-16 wild-card round loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers-- McCarron led Cincinnati to a 2-2 record. He also threw five touchdown passes and had an interception in those games.

Now for the big question SEC fans want to know: Will Tripp follow in his daddy's shoes as a quarterback at Alabama? Well, he has some time to decide.
