Varanasi: The daily wage employees of University Works Department (UWD), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), who went on strike on Monday to press for the demand of regularization of their service, called off the agitation on Tuesday afternoon.
The agitation was called off after arriving at a consensus during talks between the representatives of the employees and BHU administration in the presence of labour officials.
Superintending engineer GK Singh met the striking representatives at Vishwanath temple and assured them that their demands would be considered.
A representative of the employees, Girdhar Lal Srivastava said that the strike was called off on the assurance of UWD superintending engineer, who said that the demands would be considered and arrangements will be made within a month.
The striking employees resumed duties on Tuesday afternoon.
