Vadodara: Lawyers from the city united on Tuesday to protest against the resolution asking practising lawyers to renew their sanad (license) every five years.
The Baroda Bar Association (BBA) and Vakil Hit Rakshak Samitee announced that it will appeal to members of Gujarat Bar Council, All India Bar Council and president of All Districts Bar Association of Gujarat to join the protest and work towards repealing the resolution passed in January last year.

"All the local bar association are unanimously protesting the resolution as it is not only affecting youths but also practising senior lawyers. Moreover, before passing the resolution no objections were considered from the local bodies," said BBA president Nalin Patel.
According to senior lawyers, the resolution is grave injustice to the profession. The resolution also requires the lawyers to pay Rs 200.
"Renewing sanad every five years would be cumbersome. We have been following a standard procedure for five decades. If increasing number of fake lawyers is the issue, they should find another alternative to track them," said BBA secretary Nehal Sutharia.
