Fake currency racket busted in Porbandar, three arrested
Rajkot: The Local Crime Branch of Porbandar busted a fake currency racket in the town and arrested three persons with counterfient notes and Brazilian currency.
"Acting on a tip-off, we have arrested Akil Vadha (28), Mohammad Iqbal alias Bapu Mohammed Hussein Pirjada (30) and Imran Halepotra (30) and seized notes of Rs 10 of Rs 500 denomination. We have also recovered 102 Brazilian currency notes whose value in Indian rupees is Rs 9.69 lakh.
The Brazilian currency notes are genuine,'' said R T Vyas, investigating officer, LCB, Porbandar.
"We have sought five-day remand of the trio to probe the source of the notes and how many more people are involved in this racket. We also need to ascertain how many notes they managed to circulate in the market," Vyas said.
"Primarily, it seems that the fake Indian currency notes were of low denomination as they could be easily identified. The accused may have used colour printing technology to print these," police sources said.
One of the accused Akil Vadha is vehicle dealer while Mohammed Iqbal works as a driver in Porbandar.
