The Yadgir Zilla Panchayat has decided to send a proposal to the State government requesting to cancel the membership of gram panchayat members if they continue to interfere with the working of the panchayat development officers (PDO).

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, zilla panchayat chief executive officer Vikas Suralkar said that a few PDOs were complaining about GP members interfering while they were preparing the nominal muster roll for the proposed works under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. He also said that a few members were also trying pressure computer operators while making data entries.

“A decision has been taken to send a strong message to others,” he said and appealed to the members to refrain from interfering with the working of PDOs to avoid legal action. Mr. Suralkar, however, said that he has asked the PDOs to accept any advice given by the members for the sake of development.

He pointed out that PDOs working in Rajankollur and Gogi (K) Gram Panchayats had made a verbal complaint in this regard. But, Mr. Suralkar said that he did not speak to the members after he received the complaint to ascertain the truth behind the charges.

Meanwhile, the official said that a team of second division clerk at gram panchayat level has been formed to check the job cards issued and its genuineness. He said that the a job card would be cancelled if the worker failed to produce the card before the team during its visit.

He said that the modalities of tank dredging works under the Kere Sanjeevi scheme have been modified. According to the new orders, the ZP has chosen five tanks instead of 30. The district has been sanctioned Rs. 1.50 crore for the project and tanks at Sannasambra, Naikal, Gundalli, Kakkera and Mavinamatti villages would be dredged and also rejuvenated under the project, he added.
