Chandigarh: Expressing concern over "deteriorating law and order situation in the state", a delegation of Punjab Congress, led by its chief spokesperson Sunil Jakhar, on Tuesday met governor Kaptan Singh Solanki and submitted a memorandum to him.
"We want to draw your urgent attention towards the total collapse of law and order in Punjab. There is an atmosphere of fear and insecurity prevailing all over the state.
The crime has become so organized and institutionalized that no less a person than the director general of police himself admitted that there are 57 organized criminal gangs operating in the state. However, the Police are not doing anything despite knowing everything, for the obvious reasons of political interference and pressure by their Akali bosses," read the memorandum.
Jakhar told the media that Solanki himself expressed deep concern over the continuous media reports on law and order. He said that the governor had also directed his officials to take note of their memorandum, along with media reports, and to seek a detailed report from the Punjab police chief.
The delegation included MLAs Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Ajit Inder Singh Mofar, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sangat Singh Giljia, Joginder Singh, Sukhbinder Singh Sukhsarkaria and Aruna Chaudhary, Karan Kaur Brar, Surinder Dawar, Amrik Singh, Tarlochan Singh and Gurcharan Singh Boparai.
