PSEB Class X results: Pass percentage up but no student from Mohali district figures on merit list

This time a total of 9,031 students from the district had appeared in the board examination. Of them, 5,578 students managed to clear the examination.

WITH A pass percentage of 61.77, Mohali figured as the second worst district after Barnala in the Class X results declared by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) here on Tuesday. This year not a single student from the district managed to find a place on the merit list of 355 students released by the board.

This time a total of 9,031 students from the district had appeared in the board examination. Of them, 5,578 students managed to clear the examination. Last year a total of 10,766 students had appeared in the matriculation examination. Out of them, 5,959 managed to pass the examination. This year the district is way behind in the pass percentage, with even the bordering districts like Ferozepur, Pathankot and Gurdaspur, where schools lack infrastructure and adequate number of teachers, doing better.

“The district has been faring poorly in the results every year. The poor performance is attributed to the posting of VIP teachers who belong to influential families. Due to their clout, the authorities cannot take any action against them,” said a senior officer of PSEB.

PSEB chairperson Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal said that it was the duty of the education department to check the performance of the teachers and then take action against the erring ones.

Festive offer

When contacted, Deputy Commissioner D S Mangat said that he could not comment on the results as he was not posted in the district last year. District Education Officer Mewa Singh was not available for comment.
