GIVING STUDENTS JUST WHAT THE INDUSTRY WANTS

Nagpur: Datta Meghe Institute of Management Studies (DMIMS), Nagpur was established in 1994. The campus is spread over 67 acres of land. The institute offers Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi, and the Master of Computer Application (MCA) programme. It is accredited by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) of the state government and is affiliated to Nagpur University.
Fourth semester student Yashaswini Ghonmode said, “The faculty members of the institute are highly experienced and friendly. The infrastructure of the college is very good. All the classrooms and the library are well furnished and the campus also includes common rooms for girls and boys. The canteen is very hygienic and provides delicious food.”
The institute is designed to grow as a centre of excellence in professional education in this part of the country. The institute strives to provide better educational aids and, through practical approaches, maintain a creative atmosphere for management studies. “DMIMS provides quality education to students primarily because the learning processes are as per needs of the industry. In addition to this, the institute also conducts various seminars and conferences on national as well as international level,” said Suyog Mohod, a second semester student.
The institute focuses on the developmental needs of individuals aspiring to be future managers, technocrats and entrepreneurs. “Before being a part of this institute, I lacked in confidence but DMIMS brought a drastic change in my personality. Motivation from the faculty helped me attain a level of self-confidence. Their efforts to make me familiar with the environment and students also helped a lot,” said Nayana Pakalwar from the fourth semester. Those already engaged business or service are assisted in upgrading their managerial and technical skills.
DMIMS secured B++ in the All India B-school Survey, 2014 conducted by Business Management Chronicle. Business Today conducted a survey in which it ranked 169th among all the top management institutes in India in the year 2014. It was ranked A+ among the top management institutes in India by Business India. Nagpur University recognized it as a Centre for Higher Learning and Research in 2013.
The institute was awarded with Excellent Industry Interface Award by Bloomberg UTV Award in February 2012. It also received Innovative B-school Award by DNA and Stars of Industry Group in February 2012. It was constituted in the B-school Excellent Industry Institute Interface by 19th BSA and Devang Mehta Business School Awards November 2011 and in B-school with Excellence Industry Interface-2011 by Star News National B-school Award 2011. It ranked among the Top 100 B-Schools Survey by Dalal Street Investment for the years 2009-10 and 2010-11.

Skill development top on DMIMS agenda
Datta Meghe Institute of Management Studies, Nagpur, has 21 years of glorious existence. We are the only stand-alone management college to receive NBA accreditation for the MBA programme (2008 and 2012) in Vidarbha region. The credit goes to the government of Maharashtra and UGC as they granted this institute the academic autonomy for MBA programme in 2015. The programme is designed in such a way that the institute grows as a centre of excellence in management education along with current trend and issues. It strives to provide the best educational aids and maintain a creative atmosphere. The institute has a flexible and innovative approach towards the teaching-learning process with emphasis on practical aspects and beyond-the-syllabus areas of knowledge.
Training and placement activity is a prime area for us and we are one of the few management institutes in the region to have placements according to the area of specialization. Value-addition is another area on which the institute lays great stress. A daily slot has been earmarked in the timetable for corporate skills development. The institute has a vibrant and academic advisory board which includes leading industrialists, corporate executives, renowned academic administrators and eminent academicians. The institute has a dedicated team of qualified faculty members who bring forth a right mix of industry-academic experience. They are vibrantly involved in their pursuit of disseminating knowledge and expertise through teaching and research. The institute has approved place of higher learning (research cell) of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University which organizes various workshops and certification programmes in the area of research methodology.
Research being the integral part of formal education, the institute has implemented policies for students and faculty, and encourages them to participate in conferences in premier institutes, universities and abroad. The institute has received funds from government bodies for research projects, entrepreneurship development cell and institute-industry partnership cell. The pedagogy includes outbound training, sports and extra-curricular, cultural and social activities. The prime focus is on the holistic development of students and encourage them to participate in extra-curricular activities, contests and competitions at regional and national level. Projects, assignments, guest lecturers/workshops and learning from ‘role models’ are the regular part of the curriculum in order to give practical exposure to students. DMIMS believes in ‘collaborative learning’ and encourages industry-academia interface by inviting experts from industry for curriculum design, mentoring, live projects, internship, placement, consulting, corporate training and collaborative research.
