Nagpur: Burglars struck at three different places in the city over the last couple of days.
Police said Prabhat Bannerjee (75), a resident of Friends Colony near Katol Road, had gone to his son’s place in Pune when someone sneaked into his residence and decamped with valuables worth 1,68,500, including TV, mobile, camera and cash 6,000. Bannerjee’s neighbour was the first to spot the broken main door of the house, which was left ajar by the miscreants.
The neighbours immediately alerted Bannerjee, who registered an offence of burglary at Gittikhadan police station.
In another incident, burglars decamped with valuables worth 82,000, which included cash 15,000, from the residence of Dixit family at Rajeshwar Nagar at Godhani in Mankapur. The family had gone to Achalpur on Monday. The family lodged a complaint at Mankapur police station on their return when they saw the main door lock broken and valuable missing.
In yet another incident, unidentified thieves decamped with valuables worth 1.15 lakh from the residence of Shyam Morande (26) at Vinoba Bhave Nagar. An offence was registered at Yashodhara Nagar police station. Police said Morande and his wife had gone out while his 85-year-old grandmother Sakubai was at home. Despite the presence of the octogenarian, a thief sneaked into the residence and decamped with the valuables kept in the cupboard.
Police have expressed surprise that the keys of the almirah were left beside it. Moreover, it’s learnt the thief did not take cash which was kept beside the valuables. A section of the cops feel the thief could be an insider, who was well aware of the whereabouts of the Morandes.
Police are conducting investigations under the guidance of senior officers.
