Eye on Punjab Assembly polls, Akali Dal to launch apps to connect with voters

“Progressive Punjab Opportunities Unlimited - Track the progress around you!” reads the app’s catch line on the trial run.

Fearful of being left out of the AAP-dominated social media space, the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal is preparing to launch a number of mobile apps to target the young, including one that will advertise its achievements ahead of the 2017 elections, and another app for the party’s youth wing

All projects, be they monuments, memorials, roads or other prominent works carried out during the nine-year rule of SAD-BJP government will be on the app, to be called Progressive Punjab. It will pick up the user’s location to provide area specific information

“Work on its launch is in advanced stage,” SAD IT wing chief Parminder Singh Brar told The Indian Express on Tuesday. He added that app would be formally launched by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal and it would be “first of its kind” app.

The trial run of the app is on, and it features on Google Play. Brar said it would take some time before it gets fully functional.

Festive offer

SAD has also come up with an app for the party its youth wing the Youth Akali Dal. The members can post details of the activities for the party, including photos on it. The app has sections dedicated to party press releases, information about the events, SAD achievements

Yet another app in the making, through which SAD hopes to connect with citizens on a subject that has wide resonance, is called Saaf Punjab (Clean Punjab), on which, like Instagram, photos can be shot and uploaded, in this case, to show garbage, pinpoint to particular roads and streets.

“A number of more apps are in pipeline. These will be launched once the fine print is ready,” said Brar.

SAD has already launched a vigorous campaign on social networking sites like facebook, showing the pictures and videos of the works carried out during its regime.
