Wood fire triggers cylinder burst
Vasco: An LPG cylinder burst in a house at Sancoale on Tuesday morning. A wood fire in the backyard to heat water spread due to the wind and lit the rear portion of the house on fire resulting in a loss of 1.80 lakh.
At about 8.30am, sixty-seven-year-old Upicares Rodrigues, who stays alone in the house had gone to church. She resides in Shindol, Sancoale.
In her absence, the fire she had lit in the backyard to heat water spread. It started burning the house, from the kitchen, godown to the bathroom. Three of five rooms were burnt.
According to Verna fire station incharge, Damodar Pednekar, “There were two cylinders in the house. One was attached to the gas stove and another empty one was kept in the godown. Due to the continuous burning, the empty cylinder in the godown burst.”
The impact of the blast was such that it broke the roof of the godown and the top portion of the cylinder fell outside the house, leaving the remaining portion inside.
Fire services personnel reported a loss of 1.80 lakh
