Biocon chairperson Kiran Mazumdar Shaw has been appointed the Australian Global Alumni ambassador by the country's high commissioner to India, Harinder Sidhu.

Bengaluru: Biocon chairperson Kiran Mazumdar Shaw has been appointed the Australian Global Alumni ambassador by the country's high commissioner to India, Harinder Sidhu. While there are 12 such ambassadors globally, Shaw is the only one from India.
S haw told TOI, "This is a big honour. There are several Australian-educated friends in India and it is great representing them." The Bengalurean did her masters in malting and brewing from Ballarat College, University of Melbourne.
"Australian education has been a vital part of my career," she added. The Australian-educated alumni is 3 lakh strong and there are an estimated 53,000 Indians studying there now. Shaw said Australia is playing a key role in developing the human capital of India and this is a great partnership benefiting both countries.
High commissioner Sidhu said Shaw was an inspiration to young women who are considering a career in science, engineering technology or mathematics.
